The area of the Callejón de Huaylas is one of the most important areas of the department of Ancash where not only is the most extensive tropical mountain range in the world, but also the most beautiful mountain on the planet, the impressive snow-capped Alpamayo. Here, at the foot of the most spectacular Andean mountains, the snowy landscapes of the Callejón de Huaylas -a narrow and elongated alluvial valley- hide numerous trails ideal for all kinds of extreme sports, especially trekking. Ancash is more than dazzling natural beauty, it is the cradle of ancestral civilizations: in the year 1000 B.C., and for almost 8 centuries, this was the territory of the Chavin culture, one of the oldest civilizations in Peru, which laid the foundations of the Andean cosmovision that is still alive today and whose presence can be observed in the impressive Chavin de Huantar archaeological complex.
